Icelandic ponies
Hello! It's Svana again. I'm so excited: I'm going to my neighborhood barn today! I love petting and caring for the adorable Icelandic ponies! As the name suggests, the Icelandic Pony originated in Iceland many years ago. They are rather small, but surprisingly sturdy. Their height ranges from thirteen to fourteen hands, or fifty-two to fifty-six inches. There is one particular horse at the barn, a filly named Pala, that is so adorable! Her soft brown eyes can easily melt your heart. Like most Icelandic ponies, Pala has a small sturdy build and a shaggy mane. One of the most unique characteristics of this breed is the fact that they have five gaits. These are the walk, the trot, the canter/gallop, the tolt, and the pace. Although the canter and the gallop are typically considered two different gaits, this is not so with Icelandic Ponies. Another fascinating fact is that even though they are the size of ponies, they are classified as horses. In my country, horses are not allowed to enter the country, even if they were born here. However, the Icelandic breed is recognized in nineteen different countries. They can be many different colors, ranging from gray, to palomino, to pinto. They are extremely strong, and are rarely ill. Well, I'm off to the barn!
