Russian Holidays

Hey its Ivan,

Holidays are an important part of a family. Even
though the new year is celebrated on the same day as America, some Russian holidays have differences, like Christmas instead of Santa we have Grandfather Frost and the Snow Maiden to distribute presents. It is celebrated on January 7 because we go on the Julian calender which is 13 days behind the calender used in America. Seven weeks before Easter we celebrate Shrovetide that is a week long. Many activity's like noise making and people wear costumes. Most couples get married during this week. On May Day is the celebration of the first day of spring, we shoot off fireworks, and sing songs. Victory day is celebrate on May 9 and we celebrate the end of World War 2.
