Going to school in Germany is really different than it is here. All of the education is free. Even though kindergarten was started in Germany, students are not required to take it, they can go right to first grade. Students going to school, go for 220 days and get a six week summer vacation. It starts between July or September and ends between June and August depending on the province the students live in. A normal school day is from eight a.m. till the afternoon. When students finish the sixth grade they pick which kind of high school they would like to attend. Students that attend Gymnasium is for those who plan to go to college. Realschule is for the students that do not know if they are going to college or just getting a job. Students just wanting to get a job would attend Hauptschle. German schools study math, science, social studies and more.
